Phill Allsopp, Sales & Marketing Director at the Lea Marston Hotel, endured terrible weather on the weekend of the 15th July to conquer 3 Yorkshire Peaks in aid of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice. Richard Loukes & a team of 10 volunteers from National Grid visited the Mary Ann Evans Hospice on Tuesday 5th July as part of a community support day. The team arrived early and were set the task of repainting the Hospice’s Bereavement Centre, the Warren, giving it a brand new lick of paint to brighten it up. Galliford Try Infrastructure on Leicester Road, Wolvey, recently chose local good cause the Mary Ann Evans Hospice as their charity of the year, having researched causes in the area and casting a team vote. The Nuneaton Lions Club, a charity that aims to benefit worthy causes, has recently donated to a well-loved local charity, the Mary Ann Evans Hospice. The donation was made following a presentation from Chriss Gillmann, Secretary of College Street Allotments, to the Nuneaton Lions. Chriss described how the allotments have been providing the hospice kitchen with donations of fresh produce, biscuits, and snacks and raising money for patient meals for many years. On Saturday 8th July, the brilliant Bulkington Silver Band held their annual ‘Party in the Park’ as part of the Brass Fest UK weekend which saw over 100 brass bands playing to the public during the weekend across the United Kingdom. On Sunday 9th July, Alison Dearden, from Abbey Physiotherapy on Coton Road, Nuneaton, was battling through scorching temperatures of more than 30 degrees at the Festival of Endurance, Hever Castle Triathlon. Alison successfully completed the 1.9km lake swim, 60km cycle and 4km in a fantastic time of 4 hours and 6 minutes! Alison was taking part in the triathlon in aid of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice and has so far raised £771.17; a tremendous amount! Mary Ann Evans Hospice supporter, Barry Goss, is aiming to raise a fantastic £1,000 by taking on a challenge of epic heights this September. This exciting challenge will see Barry attempt to summit 24 Peaks in the Lake District, all over 2400ft, in 24 hours. The first trekking day is from Bow Fell to Green Gable, summiting 9 peaks over a distance of 17 miles, with a target time of 13 hours. Our volunteer photographers from Corley & Fillongley Photographic Club took thousands of photos on the day and they are available to purchase for 50p per photo. All our photographers gave their time and their photos for free so we could raise even more money! 100% of photo money (less small card fee) will come to the Hospice. On Sunday 23rd April, #TeamMAEH, a group of 12 runners representing the Mary Ann Evans Hospice will be lining up on the start line of the iconic Virgin Money London Marathon. Although nervous of the 26.2 miles ahead of them, they will be excited to see all of the Capital’s landmarks, including the Cutty Sark, London Eye, Tower Bridge, Big Ben & Buckingham Palace. The atmosphere will be electric and the cheers from the crowd will support the brave runners right to the finish, where they can celebrate their amazing achievement with friends and family! Each runner has put in a lot of training hours, running long distance on weekends and taking part in training events, such as the Silverstone Half Marathon on Sunday 12th March. The Mary Ann Evans Hospice are delighted to announce that they have been selected as the nominated local Charity for the 2017 BADGERS Atherstone 10K, which takes place on Sunday 27th August! The 10K race, now in its 4th year, is hosted by the BADGERS, a UKA affiliated running club in North Warwickshire and is centred on the pretty market town of Atherstone. The event promises to offer a challenging course, taking in the beautiful North Warwickshire countryside including exclusive access through the private Merevale Estate. The race starts on Long Street and finishes in historic Market Square, providing a number of public houses and cafes looking forward to welcoming runners and spectators.
