This week we, in the Fundraising Team, had the pleasure of meeting Averil Caton. A fantastically motivated fundraiser, who is raising funds for #YourLocalHospice. She is taking up one of the world’s most famous challenges. The London Marathon.

Averil is a wonderful character with a real can-do attitude. Her story is one that we can all appreciate, after weight loss and getting into exercise, Averil was hit by the running bug. As she explains:

“As the pounds dropped off, my enthusiasm for exercise increased, regularly attending my pic n mix of pump, Aqua, yoga, clubbercise, Zumba, body blitz, tennis …along the way C25k was mentioned. Run…I had never ran…I kept procrastinating …Me? I can’t do this…but in November 2018 a friend ran with me for the first time and 2.3 k was reached and I loved it!”

She recently held an Autumn Fayre for the Hospice. In which she raised over £1,800 and has plenty of other plans to keep on top of her fundraising efforts. She is utilising the JustGiving platform to fundraise online as well.

The competitions and running landmarks keep on coming and going for Averil as she smashes through each personal target. She is also very enthusiastic about her local park run at Kingsbury Water Park and wants to encourage as many as possible to get into running it with her.

We wish her the very best of luck in both her fundraising activities and her training programme. It is because of supporters like her that the Hospice can continue to provide its vital services for free.
