It is with great saddness that we learned of the death of our Honorary President, Bill Olner, yesterday – 18th May 2020. Bill was a massive supporter of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice, continually raising funds and our profile in the local community. We are very grateful to have been blessed with Bill’s support and enthusiasm for ourselves as a charity.
Our Chief Executive, Liz Hancock, had this to say;
“I was so sorry to hear the news about Bill – he was a great friend of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice and actually our Honorary President. It was through his, and others, hard work and dedication that we have been caring for patients and their families for nearly 30 years.
He was extremely passionate about the work and I recall many times when he would ask some rather challenging questions but always with patients best interests at the forefront of his mind. I remember visiting the House of Commons with him to talk to the Health Minister, at the time, what an amazing opportunity for a small community hospice.
He and Gill have been wonderful Ambassadors for, not just the Mary Ann Evans hospice, but the hospice movement as a whole and I will miss him.
Thank you Bill for “sharing the care”.”
