Morning commuters at Nuneaton, Coleshill and Atherstone railway stations received a Valentine’s treat on Tuesday 14th February as they were gifted Love Heart sweets and information cards inviting them to share photos and spread the word about local hospice care, from the Mary Ann Evans Hospice.

The campaign, aiming to raise awareness of the amazing work that hospices do in the local community, was part of ‘Love your Local Hospice’ week which ran from 13th – 19th February. Throughout the day, the community posted photos and tweeted on social media platforms Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtags #loveyourlocalhospice and #tweetyoursweet.

Nuneaton Train Station Deputy Manager, Steve Parker, tweeted “@maehospice thank you to the lovely Gemma & Natalie for the Love Hearts & giving them away at Nuneaton station #loveyourlocalhospice.”

Jackie Treadwell of Coleshill support group said “It was such a positive morning, even with the cold. People were just surprised that we were giving something away for free and we had a few people asking questions about the work of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice. Just lovely.”

At King Edward IV College, a dedicated support group for the hospice, the Young Friends, ran a bake sale to raise funds and gave away lollipops, encouraging their student counterparts to spread awareness on Valentine’s Day.

With such success at the start of the week the Hospice continued the good feeling by visiting local businesses such as Cartridge World, Earth Spirit Crystals, Hinckley and Rugby Building Society in Nuneaton  and Cuttsy’s Hair Studio, Your Move and TSB, Bedworth. Staff were presented with sweets and cards as a token of appreciation for all they do to support the hospice.

Campaign organiser Gemma Thompson said “It’s been such a lovely week filled with love for local hospice care. A collaboration of 16 hospices across the West Midlands came together to spread awareness and it has been great to see the local communities supporting the campaign. We would like to thank London Midland for allowing us to use the stations and Swizzles for sending us extra sweets for free. ”
