The ice & snow may have put a stop to the Mary Ann Evans Hospice’s original Santa & Elf Dash event in December, however plenty of Santa’s, elves, reindeer and snowmen came together for ‘Take 2’ of the fantastically festive Christmas family fun run on Sunday 14th January.

Prizes were awarded to the best dressed adult and best dressed child, chosen by the Mayor of Nuneaton & Bedworth, Councillor Bill Hancox and Mrs Sheila Hancox, as well as the Mayor and Mayoress of North Warwickshire, Councillor Terry & Elizabeth Waters. Participants were warmed up by Louise Gibson of Lou’s Zumba and counted down to the off by Cllr Bill Hancox and Chief Executive of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice, Liz Hancock.

Santa Dashers, ran, jogged or walked the wheelchair friendly 5K route through the hospital grounds and Bermuda Lakes. The cold weather didn’t seem to affect their spirit though as there were lots of smiley faces and a real sense of achievement as they crossed the finish line- where the Mayors were on hand to present the runners with their medals.

Hospice Fundraiser, Jessica Atkinson, said “We’d like to thank everyone who took part on the day and especially those who raised sponsorship for this event and we still have sponsorship money to come in! The hospice needs to raise £2,500 every day in order to provide its services, so the support of our local community is vital and greatly appreciated. We hope everyone is feeling suitably festive now!”

“Thanks also go to the hospice’s valuable volunteers, who helped out by marshalling the course, registering participants and selling merchandise and refreshments throughout the event; we couldn’t do it without your help. Craig Tracey MP for North Warwickshire even sported a Hospice tabard and helped Marshal the course! The hospice is always on the lookout for volunteers to help out at our events so if you are interested in getting involved, please contact or 024 7686 5436 to register your interest.”

The hospice would like to extend their thanks to local business Pure Gym Nuneaton who supported this event by providing water for the participants, marshalled the course and encouraged runners to keep going along the route. Sainsbury’s also supported the Santa & Elf Dash by donating doughnuts. If your business would like to get involved in supporting hospice events, please contact 024 7686 5436 to discuss opportunities for 2018.

Don’t forget you can still complete your Santa & Elf Dash in your own time, or join us for Mudnificent 7 on Saturday 11th August for a muddy fun run!
