There’s no better way to say this than in Emmie’s own words. So taken from her JustGiving Page, Emmie has this to say about why she is Wing Walking for #YourLocalHospice:

“So! Last time I raised money for charity I  jumped from a plane, this time I’m strapping myself to the wings of a 460hp bi-plane and flying through the sky doing deep dives, steep climbs and more. Here’s why…

I’m sure most of you are aware that my grandparents have been more like my parents for the majority of my life and unfortunately, after 3 and a half years battling lung cancer, my Grandad passed away November 2019. Throughout his fight my Nan was his absolute rock, standing by his side through thick and thin. Unfortunately, the week of my Grandads funeral my Nan collapsed and followings numerous tests, she has now been diagnosed with Kidney cancer.

Now I know, I could be raising money for Cancer Research or so on. But the charities that often get forgotten in these circumstances are those that care for people suffering from cancer and end of life illnesses.

During my Grandads fight, he attended Mary Ann Evans Hospice in Nuneaton who provided a day hospice service for him. Keeping him young, offering respite for him and my Nan, sending him home with lovely flowers and cakes for her. They kept him dancing, laughing, singing, joking.. The list goes on.

Mary Ann Evans offer a range of support services from counselling to day hospice to end of life care and they require a lot of money each year to be able to provide this to families like mine. Only 25% of their funding comes from the NHS and they need our help.

Since my Nans diagnosis I have become aware of quite how common Cancer is becoming and although the research is very very important, services such as these that support families like mine are a necessity.

Anything you can give to help families in a difficult time would be amazing 💗xx”
